The Song of the Forest
By Sophia J. Park (G9)
From knights and dragons To fairies and wizards Truth lies within me now faded to memory No words gave me presence of any For all I seem is rustle and hustle I’ve seen battles of despair Peace and repair Enclosed in my bark, between the rings of time All but sweat poetry, possessed in perfect rhyme Standing still and strong and silent Light bringers never notice what they need not know When hedged with leaves and bark and twigs When lost from lies, sweat talk and wigs Never are you alone to be In the forest where we trees will always see And how careless the earthlings all had to be Never did you feel the terror of trees When they are stomped away, unnoticed, unseen Never have you heard us speak the truth When you leaned ears to lies beneath our leaves Come closer, dear youngling, Away from all the dawdling An ear on my bark, both eyes on my leaves, The stories of hope, sorrow and trees Will unfold before you as you please |
